MLB: The 2017 Year in Review

Big Plays

Buster Posey hit a walk-off home run at 1 a.m. in the bottom of the 17th inning to beat the Reds 3-2. The game spanned a time of five hours and twenty-eight minutes.

Bryce Harper and Hunter Strickland threw haymakers out in San Francisco. The day after the brawl, Harper was suspended for four games and Strickland was suspended six.

Edinson Volquez threw a no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks. For a team still hurting from Jose Fernandez’ death and lacking a true ace, Volquez shut down the eventual playoff-bound Snakes.

Nolan Arenado hit a walk-off home run to complete the cycle against the Giants. It was only the fifth time in history it had ever happened, the first time since his teammate CarGo did it back in 2010.

Aaron Judge put on a laser show to win the Home Run Derby in Miami. He hit 47 home runs with ease, four of which traveled further than 500 feet.

Brian Goodwin, Wilmer Difo, Bryce Harper, and Ryan Zimmerman went back-to-back-to-back-to-back as the Nationals hit four consecutive home runs against the Brewers.

Steve Pearce hit two walk-off grand slams in the same week, one in extra innings against the A’s and one that capped a six-run rally against the Angels. He’s only the third player to ever hit two walk-off grand slams in the same season, and he did so just four days apart.

Austin Jackson became Superman at Fenway Park.

Rookie Rafael Devers took Aroldis Chapman deep the other way to tie the game in the 9th inning on Sunday Night Baseball. After the game, he wasn’t even legally allowed to drink a beer to celebrate the Red Sox 3-2 win.

Rockies pitcher Chad Bettis threw seven shutout innings at Coors Field in his return from testicular cancer.

Brewers’ centerfielder Keon Broxton robbed Randal Grichuck of a go-ahead home run to end the game. The win pushed the Brewers 2.5 games in front of the Cardinals in the wild card.
