MLB: The 2017 Year in Review

2017 began on a very somber note as Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura was killed in a car accident in his native Dominican Republic. He had helped them get to two World Series and win their first championship since 1985.

Hurricane Harvey flooded the Houston area, leading to rescheduled and relocated games for the Astros. In their first game back at Minute Maid Park, the Astros chased Mets starter Matt Harvey for seven runs in two innings, symbolically proving that together the Houston community would overcome Hurricane Harvey.

Former pitcher Roy Halladay died in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico. He was an 8-time All-Star who won two Cy Young Awards, a World Series, three 20-win seasons, and threw both a perfect game and a playoff no-hitter. He’s eligible to be voted into the Hall of Fame in 2019.
